Funeral held for former Hereford-based SAS major

A DECORATED former SAS major was laid to rest in Hereford last week.
Major Joe Schofield, who served with five different SAS regiments, died at the age of 90.
In 1965 he joined 22 SAS as a captain based in Hereford before going on to be quartermaster.
Later in life he became an active member of the SAS Association and organised visits to France to lay wreaths on the graves of those killed there.
His funeral was held at Belmont Abbey.
