Herefordshire Business News: Herefordshire bed and breakfast wins green tourism award

A HEREFORDSHIRE bed and breakfast has been awarded with an award for its green approach to tourism.

Aspen House in Hoarwithy was presented with the gold standard award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) for their environmentally friendly approach to business.

Robert Elliott and Sally Dean, who have run Aspen House since 2002, focus on serving locally produced organic food and say they want to show that being green is more about attitude than expensive gadgets.

Mr Elliott, who has written two books on the subject, said: “All the most innovative, renewable gadgetry will not save the planet. Being green is not only about fitting solar panels and grey water recycling units but also about changing our attitude.

“To be recognised on a national level for the work we do at Aspen House is extremely rewarding and makes us very proud.”

The award follows the business recently being ranked number 10 in the top 50 bed and breakfasts in the country in a guide by the Independent newspaper.
